PDF work is boring. These tools make it less painful.

A practical guide to pdf tools on DailyTool

In short: DailyTool's PDF tools let you merge, split, compress, protect, unlock and convert PDFs (to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, images) right in your browser. No signup, files never leave your device on most tools.

Look, nobody wakes up excited to merge PDFs. You do it because a college form wants marksheets 1-4 in one file, or a client wants three invoices combined, or HR wants your resume + certificates together. And that's exactly when normal tools annoy you — signup walls, watermarks, 2-file limits.

I built this section after watching how people actually use PDFs. Most jobs are the same five: combine, split, shrink, convert, and lock/unlock. So every tool here does one job, opens fast, and doesn't upload your file to some random server unless it has to. The Excel converter is the only one that uses a backend (tables are hard) — everything else runs on your own machine.

Who are these pdf tools for?

Everyday jobs these tools handle well

Students

Combine marksheets, shrink a 12MB scan to under 2MB for a portal, split one big notes PDF into chapters.

Freelancers & shops

Merge invoices, convert a client's PDF table to Excel instead of retyping 200 rows.

Office staff

Lock salary slips before emailing, unlock your own old file when you forgot the password you set in 2021.

How to get it right the first time

3 simple steps

1

Pick the job, not the tool name

Need one file from many? Merger. File too big for upload? Compressor. Need to edit? Convert to Word first — don't fight the PDF directly.

2

Check the file before you process

Open it once. Wrong page order and sideways scans are the #1 reason people redo work. Rotate/fix order first, then merge or convert.

3

Download and rename immediately

Browsers name everything 'merged.pdf'. Rename to something you'll find later — ClientName-Invoice-Aug.pdf beats merged-final-2.pdf.

💡

Real situations where this helps

Taken from jobs people actually do

Admission portal rejects your 8MB file

A scanned Aadhaar + marksheets at 300 DPI is often 8-15MB. Run it through the Compressor once, pick medium quality, and it usually drops to 1-2MB with readable text.

Bank statement to Excel

Instead of copying 6 months of transactions by hand, drop the PDF into PDF to Excel. Each page becomes a sheet — then delete the junk rows and keep date/description/amount.

Two PDFs + three photos = one application

Convert the photos with Image to PDF first, then merge everything in order. Takes two minutes, looks like one clean document.

⚠️

Mistakes people make (so you don't have to)

Quick things worth knowing before you start

Compressing an already-compressed scan 3 times

Each pass blurs text a little more. One medium pass is enough. If it's still big, rescan at 150 DPI instead of compressing again.

Merging before checking orientation

One sideways page ruins the whole file. Glance through thumbnails before you hit merge.

Emailing salary/bank PDFs without a password

Takes 10 seconds to protect. Use Protector with a phone-number-style password you can share on a call, not in the same email.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions people actually ask about pdf tools

📚 5 Questions Answered
Are my PDF files uploaded to a server?
For merger, splitter, protector, unlocker, image and PPT conversion — no. They run entirely in your browser with JavaScript, so the file never leaves your device. The Excel converter sends the file to our server for table extraction and deletes it after processing.
Is there a file size limit?
Browser tools handle most files up to 50-100MB fine, depending on your phone/laptop RAM. If a 200MB scanned book crashes a tab, split it into two halves first.
Will converting PDF to Word keep everything perfect?
Honestly, no converter is 100% perfect. Text-heavy PDFs convert very well. Fancy layouts with floating boxes and signatures will need 5 minutes of cleanup. Tables work best via the Excel tool, not Word.
I forgot my PDF password. Can Unlocker help?
If it's your own file and you know part of the password, yes — the tool removes known-password restrictions locally. It can't crack strong unknown passwords (no online tool honestly can, despite what ads claim).
Which tool reduces PDF size the most?
The Compressor, with image-heavy scans. Text-only PDFs are already small — don't expect miracles there. If your scan is photos of pages, medium compression usually cuts 60-80%.
