1. Why Statements Are Hard to Convert
Statements mix bordered transaction tables with headers, footers, running balances and multi-line narrations. Generic converters merge the narration into the amount column or drop the balance entirely. The Lines detection mode here keys off column whitespace derived from the text layer, keeping Date | Description | Debit | Credit | Balance aligned.
2. Best Settings for Statements
- Mode: Lines (bordered tables) — fall back to Auto if the bank uses borderless layouts.
- Sheets: Single Sheet for a full-month ledger; per-page sheets if you need page-level audit proof.
- Header: keep First row as header ON so Date filters and sorting work instantly.
- Pages: deselect page 1 (summary) and last pages (T&Cs) via thumbnails or ranges like 2-5.
3. 2-Minute Reconciliation Check
After download: sort by Date, SUM debits and credits separately, and compare closing balance = opening + credits − debits. If a narration wrapped onto two rows, merge those two cells and re-check — that single fix resolves 90% of mismatches.
