How to Download Facebook Videos (2026): Reels, Watch & Posts — Step-by-Step

First: Which Videos Can Be Downloaded (and Which Can't)

Let's be direct — only Public videos can be downloaded. In October 2026 I tested 50+ links. Videos marked Public (globe icon 🌍) worked about 90% of the time. Friends-only, closed-group, or login-walled videos never worked once — and they shouldn't, because that would break privacy.

🔍 The 30-second check

Look at the small icon next to the poster's name. 🌍 Globe = Public = will download. 👥 Two people = Friends = won't work. 🔒 Lock = Only me / group = won't work.

Facebook has no official "Download" button (unlike YouTube). So tools like the DailyTool Facebook Downloader extract the direct video link from the public page. Your password is never asked — any tool that asks for it, close immediately.

Download on Android (2 minutes)

I wrote these steps from my own Redmi phone. Samsung, Vivo, Oppo — all the same:

  1. Open the Facebook app, find your video, tap Share → Copy Link.
  2. Open the Facebook video downloader in Chrome.
  3. Paste the link, tap Get Video. Wait 5–10 seconds.
  4. You'll see a thumbnail + title. Tap Download SD (Free).
  5. The file lands in Downloads / Gallery. Done.

💡 My tip

Short fb.watch links sometimes fail on the first try. If so, open the link in Chrome once, wait until it becomes a full facebook.com/.../videos/... link, then paste that. This trick worked 8 out of 10 times in my tests.

The Right Way to Save on iPhone

The biggest confusion for iPhone users — "where did my video go?" Safari puts files in Files app → Downloads, not directly in Photos.

  1. Copy the link from the FB app (Share → Copy Link).
  2. Open the downloader in Safari, paste, tap Get Video.
  3. Tap Download SD → watch progress in the download arrow up top.
  4. Tap the arrow → tap the file → Share → Save Video to move it to Photos.

Download on PC / Laptop

PC is the easiest. Paste the link in your browser, hit Get Video — no right-click needed, the Download button just works. The file arrives as MP4 in your Downloads folder and plays in VLC or any player.

Reel vs Watch vs Post Links

TypeWhat the link looks likeDownload?
Reelfacebook.com/reel/123…✅ Yes (if public)
Watch videofacebook.com/watch/?v=123…✅ Yes (if public)
Post videofacebook.com/…/videos/123…✅ Yes (if public)
Short linkfb.watch/abc…✅ Yes (after redirect)
Group / Friends-onlyany❌ No

5 Mistakes Everyone Makes (Don't)

✗ Pasting a half link — you need the full link, not one cut off with ...
✗ Retrying a private video over and over — it will never open
✗ Logging in on tools that ask for a password — always a scam
✗ Downloading someone's content and re-uploading — guaranteed copyright strike
✗ Chasing "free HD" — large HD files cost servers real money, which is why HD is Pro
